New documents filed with China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) indicate that BYD is preparing to launch a high-performance version of its all-electric supercar, the Yangwang U9. The new model, named the Yangwang U9 Track Edition, will feature significantly upgraded specifications compared to the standard version.

BYD previously introduced the original Yangwang U9 as its first fully electric supercar. The vehicle includes four electric motors, one at each wheel, with a total output of approximately 1,300 hp. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.36 seconds. The U9 is also equipped with a sophisticated electric-air suspension system, allowing it to perform precise maneuvers and even lift itself slightly to avoid road obstacles.

According to the new MIIT filing, the upcoming Track Edition will significantly increase power output. Each of the four motors has been upgraded to a 555 kW unit, resulting in a combined total of 2,220 kW, or 3,019 hp. This puts the vehicle among the most powerful electric models currently known, based on publicly available information.

Design and structural changes aim to optimize performance for track use. The Track Edition is equipped with larger brakes, aerodynamic improvements, and structural enhancements. Standard features include 20-inch wheels with 325/35 R20 tires, a carbon-fibre roof, and a large fixed carbon-fibre rear wing. At the rear, an adjustable-blade diffuser helps optimize airflow.

Additional aerodynamic components mentioned in the filing include a carbon-fibre front splitter, which will be available in standard or upgraded versions, as well as an optional electric rear wing.

The full performance capabilities of the U9 Track Edition are not detailed in the filing. BYD has yet to announce official figures regarding top speed, acceleration times, or handling data. More information is expected once the vehicle is formally unveiled.

This latest development reflects BYD’s continued investment in the high-performance electric vehicle segment. The Yangwang brand, launched by BYD, is focused on delivering cutting-edge automotive technology through electric powertrains and advanced control systems.
