On September 8, BYD and its premium sub-brand DENZA showcased their latest innovations at IAA MOBILITY 2025 in Munich. The company unveiled seven new models, including the DENZA Z9GT, DENZA D9, and the BYD SEAL 6 DM-i. A highlight of the event was the introduction of BYD’s megawatt fast-charging technology.

During a press briefing, BYD Executive Vice-President Stella Li confirmed that the company’s Hungary plant will begin operations before the end of 2025. The first locally produced model will be the SEAGULL. Ms. Li stated: “Europe remains a central market for BYD. With regional headquarters, production facilities, and growing investment in R&D, we are committed to supporting Europe’s transition to sustainable mobility.”

Among the models launched, the BYD SEAL 6 DM-i TOURING was designed specifically for European consumers. It combines BYD’s DM-i hybrid system with design elements familiar to the region. The model has already entered the market in several European countries.

Attention also focused on BYD’s megawatt charging system, capable of extending driving range at a rate of 2 kilometers per second, making it the fastest peak charging technology currently in mass production. In Europe, this system will first be introduced in DENZA models. BYD expects 200 to 300 charging stations equipped with this technology to be operational across the continent by the second quarter of 2026.

At the exhibition, BYD launched its official certified pre-owned program to support the second-hand new energy vehicle market. Vehicles under this program must pass 179 inspection points, ensure at least 90% battery health, and include warranty services, roadside assistance, and connected data solutions.

Since entering the European passenger vehicle market in September 2022, BYD has expanded into 32 countries and regions. Its current lineup of 13 models ranges from compact hatchbacks to large SUVs, incorporating technologies such as the blade battery, hybrid powertrains, and megawatt charging.

Looking ahead, BYD plans to increase its retail network significantly, targeting more than 2,000 outlets across Europe by the end of 2026 through partnerships with local dealers and distributors. In Germany alone, 120 retail and service locations are scheduled to open by the end of this year, highlighting the company’s focus on localized operations.

As of August 2025, BYD’s cumulative global sales surpassed 13 million units. Its new energy vehicles are now available in 112 countries and regions across six continents. Overseas sales of passenger vehicles and pickups reached over 630,000 units in the first eight months of 2025, more than double the figure from the same period in 2024, and already exceeding last year’s total.
