Inspection of the Load Dispatch Centre by Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development, Kulman Ghising

Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Physical Infrastructure and Transport, and Urban Development, Kulman Ghising, conducted an inspection of the Load Dispatch Centre under the Nepal Electricity Authority.

On Monday evening, he visited the centre located in Syuchatar, Kathmandu, and received information about the national electricity generation, transmission, and distribution systems, grid operations, electricity demand and supply management, electricity export, and damages caused to power projects due to floods and landslides.

Stating that there have been frequent complaints about power outages in various parts of the country, Minister Ghising - who is also a former Executive Director of the Authority - held discussions on the necessary short-, medium-, and long-term policy and technical reforms required to make the electricity system more reliable, high-quality, safe, and modern.

He emphasized the need for immediate restoration of electricity services by repairing structures damaged by floods and landslides. Ghising also prioritized addressing complaints about frequent power outages and instructed subordinate offices to remain on standby accordingly.

He urged the Authority’s management to operate power plants, transmission lines, and substations at full capacity, to focus particularly on the construction of the 220 kV Marsyangdi Corridor and the 400 kV Hetauda–Dhalkevar transmission line - both considered vital for electricity supply - and to begin preparations for managing electricity during the upcoming winter season.

Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority, Manoj Silwal, and Centre Director Chandan Kumar Ghosh provided details on power generation, demand, supply, export, system operation status, and related issues. Silwal mentioned that teams are on standby and working accordingly to repair the damage caused by floods and landslides and restore electricity services.
