Nepal exported 1,805 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity to India during the first quarter of the current fiscal year, Energy Secretary Chiranjibi Chatout informed on Monday.

Speaking at a meeting of the Public Policy and Appointed Legislation Committee under the National Assembly, Secretary Chatout said that domestic electricity production during the monsoon period has been sufficient, resulting in minimal imports.

He noted that only 2.8 GWh of electricity has been imported so far.

During the first quarter, Nepal added 86 megawatts (MW) of electricity generation capacity.

In terms of infrastructure development, 36 kilometers of 66 kV and higher voltage transmission lines and 131 kilometers of 33 kV transmission lines have been completed.

Of the Rs 6.308 billion budget allocated to the energy sector, 15.16 percent has been spent so far.

Meanwhile, out of a total financial investment of Rs 4.202 billion in energy projects, 6.54 percent progress has been achieved.

Secretary Chatout also confirmed that there have been no budget blockages affecting energy projects.
