The government has granted electricity generation permits to three additional hydropower projects.

Under the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, the Department of Electricity Development has granted a power generation permit to the Chumchet Syar Khola Hydropower Project. The project has a capacity of 45 megawatts.”

The project, to be constructed by Chilime Hydropower Company, is located in Chumchet of Gorkha. The project, which will be built on the Budhigandaki River, is of a run-of-river type. It will generate an annual energy output equivalent to 348 gigawatt-hours.

The electricity generated will be connected to the proposed New Budhi Gandaki Proc Substation. It will be connected through a 110-kilometer long, 220 kV transmission line. The transmission line is being constructed by the National Transmission Grid Company.

Syar Khola is another important project for the Chilime Hydropower Company, which is facing a shortage of projects as projects like Rasuwagadhi, Sanjen, and Madhya Bhotekoshi have been completed.

Similarly, the department has granted a power generation permit to the Middle Likhu Hydropower Project. The project has a capacity of 8.60 megawatts and will be constructed in Sanghutar of Ramechhap. The department has also issued a power generation permit to the Chhomrong Khola Hydropower Project. This project, to be built by Ghandraku Hydro, has a capacity of 4.89 megawatts.

So far, the department has issued power generation permits to 263 projects. The total capacity of these projects amounts to 11,097 megawatts. In the current fiscal year alone, the department has granted power generation permits to 13 hydropower projects.

Likewise, in the current fiscal year, a total of 42 projects have applied to the department for survey permits. Altogether, 193 projects have applied for survey permits so far. The combined capacity of these projects is 9,689 megawatts.
