Yasodha Foods boosts green energy efforts with 865 kWp Solar Rooftop at its manufacturing plant

Yashoda Foods, manufacturer of Current Noodles – a leading name in the world of noodles and snacks, has entered in its sustainability journey with successfully installation of 865 kWp Roof-Top Solar Project in its factory located at Chandrauta, Kapilvastu.

The project started to generate clean green solar power on 23rd Nov, 2025 onwards.

This is first noodles plant in Nepal to have used solar power to manufacture noodles and wins the tag of Nepal’s first ‘ Green Noodles’ manufacturing facility and also the first industry in Kapilvastu industrial corridor to use solar renewable energy on its roof top.

The solar plant will have multiple benefits and is expected to meet 80% demand of power, reduce cost of electricity by 65% , use unused roof space and achieve significant carbon emission reduction.

The project has been constructed by Prime Renewables P Ltd, Nepal’s leading solar power developer with wide experience in providing smart solar solutions. NMB Bank Ltd has financed the project and interest subsidy related financial support provided by Alternative Energy Promotion Center (AEPC) under the German Grant DKTI project.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony on 2nd Dec at Chandrauta Plant, Mr. G P Sah, Global Executive Director said ‘ We at yashoda foods are proud to install this solar system at our chandruata plant which will not only reduce carbon emissions but help Current Noodles to achieve sustainability in its operation. More than one million units would be generated by this 856kw plant, annually saving 2000 tonnes of CO2 emission.

With this initiative we will be more competitive with reduction in our cost of production and providing more value to our customers and stakeholders’ Santosh Rai, Program Lead at AEPC remarked that such projects will pave way towards decarbonizing Nepalese Industry and inspire other industries in Nepal to adopt to use of Clean Energy. The support by Government of Nepal through German assistance will go a long way in ensuring such projects happen.’

Mr. Ashish Garg, Chairman Prime Renewables remarked that they were able to complete the project in three months time as an EPC contractor and glad to delivery project which uses latest solar PV technology with highly efficient bifacial solar panels and AI enabled smart inverters.

Solar power is developing as most environment friendly and cheapest source of power generation globally. With world moving towards green energy transition with gradual and phasing out of fossil fuel for power generation, adoption of solar in residential, industrial and utility scale has increased dramatically.

Nepalese industry is also now gaining momentum to embrace roof top solar as source of low cost power and decarbonizing. AEPC has been supporting such initiatives and off late more than 50 industries with combined capacity of 25MW have installed such solar systems and its adoption is increasing with every passing day.

While Nepal is rich in hydro power, solar with energy storage is providing a strong complementary source of power in dry season when river water flow goes down. Nepal Electricity Authority is also providing net metering facility to such industrial roof top projects with excess power flowing back to the national grid.

The cost of transmission and distribution infrastructure goes down with reduced load on system with such self reliant captive source of power within industry premises. Such solar roof top projects should be further promoted.

The inauguration program was graced by Santosh Rai- Project Manager, Niraj Sapkota- Solar Rooftop Coordinator and Tara Prasad Pokharel- Chief Account Comptroller from AEPC. Mr. G P Shah, President, Mr. Shiv Raj , Head of Engneering, Mr. Head of Chandrauta Plant from yasdhoda foods and Mr. Ashish Garg, Chairman, Mr. Abhishesh Dahal, Senior Electrical Engineer, Mr. Yogesh Bista, Project Officer from Prime Renewables P Ltd.
