Inovance Automotive and Innoscience announced on December 8, 2025, that their jointly developed 6.6 kW on-board charger, utilizing Innoscience's 650-volt gallium nitride (GaN) technology, has begun mass production and installation in vehicles produced by Changan Automotive.

This development represents one of the most sophisticated applications of GaN technology in automotive power electronics to date, establishing new standards for charging performance and compactness in electric vehicle on-board systems.

The integrated design combines the on-board charger and DC-DC converter into a unified GaN module. By leveraging comprehensive system optimization alongside the efficient, high-frequency operation of Innoscience's 650-V GaN components, the solution achieves substantial advancements.

Power density increases by approximately 30% to reach 4.8 kW per liter. System efficiency improves by over two percentage points compared to similar existing units, while overall weight decreases by about 20%. These enhancements enable new energy vehicle producers to provide superior charging capabilities and support lighter vehicle construction.

The consolidated layout also creates additional space within the vehicle structure, granting manufacturers greater design freedom. For users, the elevated efficiency results in shorter charging durations and reduced energy use, contributing to extended driving range.

With this GaN-equipped charging system now in series production for Changan models, both companies regard the milestone as an important advancement in the broader adoption of GaN devices within automotive power systems.
