Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited (TPREL) has announced that a 1 GW solar project it built in the Indian state of Rajasthan has commenced commercial operation. This facility is TPREL's largest solar power station commissioned to date, with all its components supplied by TP Solar's domestic manufacturing plant.

The solar project is located across two sites in the Bikaner district, and the electricity generated will be transmitted to the grids of multiple states. The specific allocation plan is: 500 MW to Rajasthan, 300 MW to Jammu and Kashmir, and 200 MW to Uttarakhand. In its first year of operation, the project is expected to produce approximately 2.45 billion kWh of clean electricity, corresponding to a reduction of about 1.74 million tons of CO2 emissions.

TPREL stated in the project announcement: "This project stands out for its robust engineering design and innovative execution plan. The delivery environment is among the most challenging in India, with summer temperatures reaching up to 50°C and winter temperatures dropping to 3°C. The rugged terrain and limited vehicle access further increased the project's complexity." The project utilizes specialized modules and inverters compliant with India's Domestic Content Requirement to adapt to the high temperatures and desert environment.

The commissioning of this solar project increases TPREL's total operational renewable energy capacity to 11.6 GW. The company currently has another 5.8 GW of capacity under construction, scheduled to be grid-connected progressively over the next 24 months.
