Ramjanaki Hydro Power Private Limited has announced plans to construct a 35.15-megawatt Upper Apsuwa Khola Hydropower Project in Sankhuwasabha district of Koshi Province. The company intends to build the project on the Apsuwa Khola, which flows along the boundary between Silichong Rural Municipality Ward No. 5 and Makalu Rural Municipality Ward No. 1.

The project’s Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) has been completed and submitted to the Ministry of Forests and Environment for approval. The ministry is currently carrying out the final-stage procedures to approve the report.

According to the report, under the project a 20-meter-long and 5-meter-high diversion weir will be constructed on the Apsuwa Khola, located at the boundary of Silichong Rural Municipality Ward No. 5 and Makalu Rural Municipality Ward No. 1.

From that point, water will be conveyed through a 2,475-meter-long underground water conveyance system to a surface powerhouse located about 800 meters downstream of Yangden village. Electricity will be generated through turbines installed at the powerhouse.

The electricity generated by the project will be connected to the Nepal Electricity Authority’s Shitalpati Substation, located 24 kilometers away, through a 132 kV transmission line.

The estimated cost to complete construction of the project is NPR 6.11 billion and 40 million (NPR 6.114 billion).
