Compensation has been determined for 10 households affected by the under-construction 140-megawatt Tanahun Hydropower Project in Jhaputar, Rishing Rural Municipality-1.

According to the project, a recent meeting of the Compensation Determination Committee, chaired by the Chief District Officer, fixed compensation based on damages incurred during project construction in the Lokpa, Dharapani, Dhoklak, Bulsat, and Jhaputar areas.

Similarly, based on the committee’s on-site inspection report, compensation has been determined for damage to orange trees affected during the construction of a tower retaining wall under the Damauli–Bharatpur transmission line in Sodhe, Byas Municipality-14.

The Compensation Determination Committee meeting was convened to address compensation demands raised by users of public (ailani) land and informal settlers located within the reservoir and buffer zone areas. The meeting discussed the additional responsibility assigned to the Compensation Determination Committee by a Cabinet decision to conduct on-site studies and surveys of ailani land that has long been under cultivation, use, and settlement within the demarcated reservoir and buffer zone of the project.

Under Package-1 of the project, works related to the dam and associated structures (headworks) are underway; under Package-2, construction of the main tunnel, powerhouse, and related equipment is in progress; and under Package-3, work is ongoing on the 220 kV Damauli–Bharatpur transmission line.

Regarding the company’s capital structure and financial management, financing has been arranged for the project’s total cost of USD 505 million (including the transmission line, rural electrification, and interest during construction). Of this amount, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) will provide USD 150 million, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) USD 184 million, the European Investment Bank USD 85 million, and the Government of Nepal/Nepal Electricity Authority USD 86 million.
