The President of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Chandra Prasad Dhakal, has urged Non-Resident Nepalis (NRNs) to confidently invest in Nepal.

Addressing the 12th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), President Dhakal stated that Nepal currently has political stability and a favorable investment environment. He called on NRNs to invest in sectors such as hydropower, tourism, and information technology. Referring to global conflicts and pandemics like COVID-19, he noted that regardless of circumstances, one’s homeland ultimately remains the final destination and priority.

He clarified that although there have been complaints in the past about some NRNs facing problems due to not finding the right partners or investing in the right places, such cases are only exceptions.

Dhakal informed that FNCCI has already moved forward with a project in collaboration with the NRN Investment Company, the first company registered in Nepal specifically for NRN investment, and emphasized the importance of institutional investment.

President Dhakal said: "Looking at the current global context - whether it is conflicts in the Middle East or times like the COVID pandemic - the place people ultimately return to is their own homeland. As an entrepreneur myself and the president of the umbrella organization of the private sector, I can say that whatever business sector you invest in, the level of potential and opportunity that exists in Nepal is rarely found elsewhere."

He also stated that a stable government has now been formed in the country, providing the political stability that the private sector and NRNs have been seeking. According to him, through the initiative of FNCCI, the government has formed a High-Level Economic Reform Commission, and several laws are currently being revised to attract domestic and foreign investment (FDI).

To counter the negative narrative that Nepal lacks capital and opportunities, he said that organizations such as FNCCI, the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI), the Nepal Chamber of Commerce, and NRNA have jointly established a 10-billion-rupee company called Nepal Development Public Limited (NDP), which has already started operations.

He also announced that if NRNs have any new innovations or projects, the NDP company will invest in them in the form of equity.
