The government has moved forward with the process of drafting four new bills aimed at long-term reform and structural strengthening of the energy sector. The initiative seeks to revise existing laws and introduce new policy frameworks.

The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation stated that the government, led by Prime Minister Balendra Shah, has prioritized legal reforms, considering the energy, water resources, and irrigation sectors as key pillars of economic prosperity.

According to the ministry, work is underway on the Water Resources Bill, the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Bill, the Electricity Bill, and the Irrigation Development and Management Bill. These proposed laws are expected to modernize and improve the overall structure, investment climate, and management system of the energy sector.

The ministry further noted that the draft of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Bill has already been prepared and is now in the final stage, with further discussions ongoing.

The government aims to streamline energy production, distribution, and consumption, while promoting hydropower and renewable energy development to support the country’s economic growth.
