IME Group has reiterated its goal of further expanding its investment and commitment in Nepal’s hydropower sector, aiming to contribute to economic prosperity, industrial development, and energy self-reliance through clean energy production.

Group Chairman Chandra Prasad Dhakal noted that although Nepal is one of the richest countries in the world in terms of water resources, there is a need to utilize them more effectively. According to him, Nepal has a theoretical hydropower generation potential of around 83,000 MW, of which a large portion can be harnessed economically and technically. He stated that IME Group has been continuously investing in the energy sector with the aim of linking this potential to national prosperity.

According to Chairman Dhakal, the group has already successfully constructed and begun commercial production from the 27 MW Dordikhola Hydropower Project in Lamjung district and the 42 MW Mistri Khola Hydropower Project in Myagdi district. He said these projects have contributed not only to adding clean energy to the national power system but also to creating local employment, developing infrastructure, and expanding economic activities.

Similarly, the group has moved forward with the construction process of the 66 MW Tiplyang Kaligandaki Hydropower Project in Annapurna Rural Municipality of Myagdi district. This project is expected not to be limited only to energy production but to become a foundation for regional socio-economic transformation. It is expected to have a positive impact on local employment generation, road and infrastructure development, expansion of business activities, and overall regional development.

Chairman Dhakal described hydropower as the backbone of Nepal’s development, stating that industrial development, agricultural modernization, expansion of digital services, and overall economic growth are not possible without energy. He said that only sufficient and reliable electricity supply can enable rapid economic growth.

He added that Nepal is moving toward energy self-reliance and has strong potential in the coming years to increase hydropower production, strengthen the national transmission system, and export electricity to neighboring countries. This would significantly contribute to foreign currency earnings, reduction of the trade deficit, and strengthening of the national economy.

IME Group has expressed its commitment to further strengthening its contribution to building a prosperous Nepal through clean energy, sustainable development, job creation, and economic transformation.
