The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has moved forward with the process of constructing the ‘Lekhnath–Damauli 220 kV Transmission Line Project’ in Tanahun. The Authority has submitted an application to the Department of Electricity Development to obtain the necessary permits for the project.

According to the Department, the proposed transmission line will start between Special Tower No. 0B and 0C of the under-construction Tanahun–Bharatpur 220 kV transmission line located at Byas Municipality–13 in Tanahun. This line, to be built in the Duberi area, will extend up to Tower No. AP–70 of the Lekhnath–Damauli 220 kV line. Its total length will be 1.2 kilometers.

The 220 kV transmission line will be based on a multi-circuit system, which is expected to allow the transmission of up to 150 megawatts of electricity. Under the project, three multi-circuit towers with a maximum height of 61 meters will be constructed. The distance between the towers will range from a minimum of 100 meters to a maximum of 400 meters.

A total of 3.416 hectares of land will be required for the project. Of this, 0.607 hectares will be permanently used for tower construction, while 3.046 hectares will fall within the right-of-way area of the transmission line.

According to the Electricity Regulations, 1993, a right-of-way width of 30 meters will be maintained—15 meters on each side from the centerline of the transmission line. The Authority aims to complete the project within the next two years.

The Department of Electricity Development issued a public notice on Wednesday, requesting written opinions, suggestions, and feedback within 35 days if the construction and operation of the project are expected to have significant adverse environmental impacts.
