Nepal received foreign direct investment (FDI) commitments worth Rs. 47.61 billion during the first 11 months of the current fiscal year 2025/26.

According to the Department of Industry, FDI commitments amounted to Rs. 7.71 billion through the automatic route and Rs. 39.90 billion through the approval route between mid-July 2025 and mid-June 2026 of the current fiscal year.

The total commitment is Rs. 13 billion (21.5 per cent) lower compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year. By mid-June of the last fiscal year, FDI commitments had reached Rs. 60.60 billion. The government received foreign direct investment (FDI) commitments totaling Rs. 64.96 billion in the last fiscal year 2024/25.

During the review period, a total of 914 industries were registered with foreign investment, including 711 through the automatic route and 203 through approval. The FDI commitment worth about Rs. 2.29 billion received in the months of Jeth (from May 15 to June 14, 2026).

During the review period, most foreign investments were directed toward small-scale industries. Out of the total, 894 were small industries, while nine under large-scale categories and 11 under medium-scale categories.

Sector-wise, the information and communication technology (ICT) sector attracted the highest number of projects, with 577 registrations accounting for nearly 63 per cent of the total. The tourism sector followed with 202 projects, representing 22 per cent.

Similarly, 62 industries were registered in the service sector, 52 industries in the manufacturing and 16 industries in the agriculture sector.

During the review period, only two industries each have been registered in mineral and energy sector. And only one industry was registered in infrastructure sector during the first 11 months of the current fiscal year.

However, in terms of investment volume, agriculture topped the list with Rs. 22.08 billion in commitments, followed by tourism with Rs. 12.99 billion. Service industries attracted Rs. 4.59 billion, while manufacturing secured Rs. 3.57 billion in FDI pledges.

The ICT sector received commitment worth Rs. 2.36 billion, mineral sector worth Rs. 115 million, while the energy sector received Rs. 234 million during the review period. The industries registered during the period have pledged to create 25,450 jobs.
