Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) sold more than four million LPG cylinders last month amid a sharp increase in demand for cooking gas.

According to the NOC, it issued purchase delivery orders for the import of 57,316 tons of LPG between mid-July and mid-August, equivalent to 4,036,364 cylinders.

NOC records show that 3,136,937 LPG cylinders were imported and sold in the previous month. This means sales increased by around 900,000 cylinders between mid-July and mid-August.

Consumers have been facing an acute shortage of cooking gas for more than a month, prompting the NOC to significantly increase LPG imports to meet the surge in demand.
