  Bhotekoshi Floods Damage More Than 700 MW of Hydropower and Solar Projects

Flood Severely Damaged 12 Hydropovers and Hydropower Projects Under Construction With The Capacity Of More Than 700 MW In Rashuwa and Nuwakot

Severe flooding in the Bhotekoshi River has severely disrupted Nepal’s power grid, knocking out 430 MW of electricity generation. The disaster damaged 11 hydropower plants with a combined capacity of 405 MW, along with a 25 MW solar facility. Preliminary reports indicate that 9 operational projects (354 MW total) and 5 projects currently under construction (394 MW total) sustained damage across Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts.

- UT3A – 60 MW Directly Impacted, NEA

- Upper Mailung – 14.8 MW

- Mailung – 5 MW

- Trishuli – 24 MW Directly Impacted, NEA

- Devighat – 14 MW Directly Impacted, NEA

- NEA Solar – 25 MW Directly Impacted, NEA

Total Capacity: 431.1 MW.

According to a press note of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA),the total damage spans four Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) installations generating 123 MW, alongside private sector projects—comprising four operational facilities (232 MW) and three under-construction sites (342 MW).

Rasuwa District Impact

Independent Power Producer Association Nepal (IPPAN), said that flooding in Rasuwa impacted seven key infrastructure sites, including four operational plants (231 MW total) and three under-construction projects (342 MW total):

- Upper Trishuli-1: 216 MW (Under Construction)

- Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Project: 111 MW

- Rasuwa Bhotekoshi: 120 MW (Under Construction)

- Sanjen Khola: 78 MW

- Tital Me: 22 MW

- Langtang River: 20 MW

- Upper Mailung A: 6.4 MW (Under Construction)

- Nuwakot District Impact

In Nuwakot, six energy facilities were damaged, consisting of four operational installations (123 MW total) and two projects under development (52.6 MW total):

- Upper Trishuli 3A: 60 MW

- Trishuli Hydropower: 24 MW

- Solar Power Plant: 25 MW (Operational)

- Trishuli Ganga: 15.6 MW (Under Construction)

- Devighat Hydropower: 14.1 MW

- Upper Trishuli 3B: (Under Construction)
