The Independent Power Producers’ Association, Nepal (IPPAN) has pledged Rs 50.55 million to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund to support victims of the devastating Bhotekoshi River floods.

A meeting of IPPAN on Thursday expressed condolences to those who lost their lives in the disaster and wished a speedy recovery to the injured.

The association also expressed concern over the damage caused to operational and under-construction hydropower projects by the floods.

It decided to coordinate with the government and provide necessary support for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of affected projects.

IPPAN President Mohan Kumar Dangi said the energy sector is closely linked not only to Nepal’s prosperity but also to the well-being of Nepali people.

He stressed the need for IPPAN member companies to stand together and support communities during times of disaster.

According to Dangi, the donation cheque from IPPAN-affiliated hydropower companies will be handed over at an appropriate time in the presence of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha.
