Bhotekoshi Flood: The Situation 11 Days On

Today marks the 11th day since the Bhotekoshi disaster. Two people were rescued alive today—one from the tunnel of the Trishuli-3A Hydropower Project and another from a house in Betravati. On Friday, two other individuals were also rescued alive. Search and rescue operations are still ongoing.

Families of those who remain missing continue to hold on to hope. However, a consolidated report detailing the exact number of deaths, injuries, and missing persons has not yet been compiled.

The government has adopted a single-window policy for relief and assistance distribution. Donations can be transferred directly to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.

A woman was rescued alive from Betravati on Saturday, the 11th day after the Bhotekoshi flood disaster

She was rescued from the house of Ananda Shrestha in Betravati, Nuwakot. Authorities have confirmed that she survived and was successfully brought to safety.

Further details about her identity, condition, and the circumstances of the rescue are yet to be released.

One Person Rescued Alive from Upper Trishuli-1 Tunnel

A Chinese national who had been missing since the devastating Bhotekoshi flood in Rasuwa has been rescued alive.

According to the Nepali Army, the survivor was rescued on Saturday from the Upper Trishuli-1 Hydropower Project tunnel.

He was found and rescued from Audit-4 Tunnel during a joint operation carried out by the Nepali Army and a South Korean disaster response expert team.

Following the rescue, he is being transported to the Maithili Barracks in Trishuli, Nuwakot for further care and assessment.

The rescue came on the 11th day after the flood, offering another sign of hope as search and rescue operations continue in the disaster-affected area.

Construction of Acrow Bailey Bridge over Tadi River in Nuwakot Accelerates

The Nepali Army has intensified construction work on an Acrow Bailey Bridge over the Tadi River at Devighat, Ward No. 5 of Bidur Municipality, Nuwakot.

A team of 55 personnel from the Nepali Army’s Engineering Corps has been deployed to build the bridge, which will be 60 meters long, 5.5 meters wide, and capable of carrying loads of up to 50 tons.

According to the Army, the necessary construction materials have been transported to the site, and bridge assembly and installation work is progressing rapidly.

The rescue came on the 11th day after the flood, offering another sign of hope as search and rescue operations continue in the disaster-affected area.

Death Toll from Rasuwa Flood Reaches 1,344; Two Die While Under Treatment

The death toll from the devastating Rasuwa flood has risen to 1,344, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA). As of 12:00 p.m. Friday, a total of 1,344 bodies had been recovered from various districts.

Among the recovered bodies, the highest number was recorded in Chitwan (360), followed by Nawalparasi West (230), Nawalparasi East (222), Nuwakot (192), Rasuwa (160), Gorkha (73), Dhading (67), and Tanahun (38). The Authority also reported that two people died while receiving treatment in Kathmandu.

Of the bodies recovered so far, 269 are women, 489 are men, 52 are girls, and 33 are boys. In addition, partial remains of 501 individuals have been recovered. So far, 96 victims have been identified and their bodies handed over to their families.

According to the Authority, around 5,000 people remain unaccounted for

The floods and landslides have left 5,663 people injured, all of whom have received treatment. Of these, 314 were treated in various hospitals, 3,266 by the Nepali Army, and 2,083 by the Armed Police Force, the Authority said.

Over NPR 11 Billion Collected in Prime Minister’s Relief Funds

The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers has stated that a total of NPR 11.0556 billion is currently held in the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund and Prime Minister’s Relief Fund.

The government had previously released NPR 1 billion from the fund for areas affected by the floods.

According to the Office, NPR 8.0625 billion is deposited across nine commercial banks. In addition, US$19.84 million has been deposited in dollar-denominated accounts maintained at Himalayan Bank and Laxmi Sunrise Bank.

Missing Salyan Woman Cremated Using an Effigy After 10 Days of Search

Pramila Budhathoki Basnet, 38, of Gauragaun in Ward No. 8 of Bagchaur Municipality, Salyan, who went missing after being swept away by the devastating Bhotekoshi flood on 26 August, has been cremated using a kusha effigy in place of her body.

After continuous searches failed to locate her even after 10 days, her relatives performed the cremation on Saturday using a kusha effigy at the Sharda River in Kalakhet.

Pramila had gone missing after being swept away by the Bhotekoshi flood while traveling from home toward the market for work. She had been living with her family in Timure, Rasuwa, for the past several years.

Pramila is survived by her two sons, 13-year-old Sushant and six-year-old Sujit Basnet. Both sons performed the final rites, while Sushant is currently observing the traditional mourning period.

The two brothers had already lost their father, Govinda Basnet, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, having lost their mother to the flood only a few years later, the two boys have effectively been left without parents.

According to Sushil Jung Chand, Ward Chairperson of Bagchaur Municipality–8, Pramila had been living with her family in Timure, Rasuwa, for the past several years. She had her own house there.
