The Nepali Army has started construction of a 60-metre-long Acro Bridge at Devighat in Nuwakot after a permanent bridge over the Tadi River was swept away by the devastating Bhotekoshi flood on Bhadra 10.

The temporary steel bridge is being constructed to restore transportation and pedestrian movement in the area after the flood destroyed the existing concrete bridge, disrupting a key local connection.

A team of 55 Nepal Army personnel, including engineers and other troops, has been mobilized for the bridge construction at Tadi River in Ward No. 5 of Bidur Municipality, Devighat.

According to the Nepal Army, construction work is progressing and the bridge is expected to be completed within the next few days.

Once completed, the 60-metre Acro Bridge will provide an immediate alternative crossing for pedestrians and vehicles, helping restore mobility for local residents and transportation services affected by the flood.

The Bhotekoshi flood caused extensive damage across Nuwakot and other districts, destroying roads, bridges and other critical infrastructure. The destruction of the permanent bridge at Devighat has created significant difficulties for communities dependent on the crossing for daily movement and transportation.

The Nepal Army’s rapid deployment of engineering personnel and troops is aimed at restoring connectivity before a permanent reconstruction solution is implemented.

The Acro Bridge, a modular steel bridge designed for relatively rapid installation, is being constructed as an emergency connectivity measure. Its completion is expected to ease the movement of people, goods and vehicles across the Tadi River.

Officials said the bridge would provide immediate relief to communities that have faced transportation difficulties since the flood.

The construction is also part of broader emergency infrastructure restoration efforts following the Bhotekoshi disaster, which damaged multiple transportation links and essential infrastructure in northern and central Nepal.

With work underway around the clock, the Nepal Army expects to complete the temporary crossing in the coming days.

The restoration of the Devighat crossing is expected to improve local transport, pedestrian access and supply movement while authorities work toward longer-term reconstruction of the flood-damaged permanent bridge.
