The Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has continued supplying petroleum products and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to Kathmandu Valley and surrounding areas through the Tribhuvan Highway, following the disruption of the Prithvi Highway at the Krishnabhir section.

The Prithvi Highway was damaged on Aug 30 after erosion by the Trishuli River, leaving fuel tankers and LPG bullets stranded along the route.

The corporation subsequently began using the alternative route to transport LPG cylinders filled at industries in the Terai to Kathmandu.

According to the NOC, around 24,500 LPG cylinders were brought into the Kathmandu Valley on Sept 3, followed by approximately 34,134 cylinders on Sept 4.

To ensure a steady supply, LPG industries have also been instructed to continue refilling and transporting cylinders even on public holidays.

Meanwhile, the corporation has been providing aviation fuel and LPG for ongoing search and rescue operations following the flooding of the Bhotekoshi River on August 26, which caused extensive damage in districts including Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha and Chitwan.

So far, helicopters deployed for rescue operations have been refuelled with approximately 120,000 litres of aviation fuel at the Nepal Army barracks in Nuwakot.

At the request of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), the NOC has also supplied 575 LPG cylinders to temporary shelters in Rasuwa and Nuwakot.

The measures are aimed at maintaining uninterrupted fuel and cooking-gas supplies while supporting emergency response and rescue efforts in flood-affected areas.
