The road section at Krishnabhir along the Prithvi Highway in Dhading has partially resumed operation after being blocked by flood-induced road damage.

The road was reopened for limited traffic after two bulldozers completed grading work and prepared the necessary platform to facilitate vehicle movement, according to Dr. Bijay Jaisi, Director General of the Department of Roads.

For the time being, only stranded LPG gas bullets and vehicles carrying heavy equipment have been allowed to pass through the damaged section, Jaisi said.

He said work to construct a drainage channel along the roadside remains incomplete. The department plans to complete the remaining work and bring the section into full two-way operation from Thursday.

Before allowing traffic to resume, authorities had tested the road’s load-bearing capacity and traffic conditions by operating empty LPG gas bullets along the repaired section.

The Krishnabhir section of the Prithvi Highway had been blocked after the Trishuli River flood on Bhadra 10 washed away and damaged part of the road.

Since then, both heavy and light vehicles using the Prithvi Highway have been forced to use alternative routes to travel between Kathmandu and destinations along the highway.

The partial reopening is expected to ease the movement of stranded essential cargo and heavy equipment, while full two-way traffic from Thursday is expected to provide further relief to transport operators and passengers using the busy highway.
