The government has been making alternative arrangements after 430 MW of electricity was disconnected from the national transmission system following the damage caused by the Bhotekoshi flood at different hydropower projects.

The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation (MoEWRI) has started the homework for alternative management after the power brought from Trishuli corridor to Balaju and Chapali of Kathmandu disconnected. Following the disruption of power supply from Trishuli corridor, Balaju and Chapali transmission lines have been facing pressure.

Ministry Spokesperson Mohan Kumar Shakya shared that the ministry has forwarded homework to develop alternative supply systems and the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has been carrying out activities making a taskforce.

The MoEWRI on Tuesday held discussions with the Department of Roads and the Kathmandu Metropolitan City for the construction of additional underground grids.

NEA has forwarded construction of additional underground grids for alternative arrangement for winter and discussion was held for collaboration with the Department of Roads and Kathmandu Metropolis for this purpose, added Shakya.

Similarly, Kathmandu Division Chief of the Department of Roads, Subodh Devkota, expressed commitment for necessary support and cooperation from the side of the Department in the construction of underground grids.

Likewise, Chief of Department of Public Works of KMC, Suresh Kumar Rai, stated that there would be necessary collaboration by laying underground cables in the footpath.

Chief of Bagmati Distribution and Customer Service Directorate, Munindra Thakur, made a presentation about load management of Kathmandu and necessary activities and shared that the NEA has been forwarding activities for the management of winter demand of power by forming a taskforce.

NEA Board Member Anshu Kiran Shahi pointed out the need of high cooperation and collaboration of all bodies in management of winter demand for power in Kathmandu.
