The government is preparing to allow security agencies to sell liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) through their existing fuel outlets to help ensure supplies during potential shortages.

Rudra Singh Tamang, secretary at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, said the arrangement is being prepared to facilitate LPG distribution at times when regular supplies become difficult.

Speaking at a programme on “Effective Supply Management and Monitoring of Daily Consumer Goods” organised by the Development, Economic Affairs and Good Governance Committee on Friday, Tamang said security agencies—including the Nepali Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force—are already involved in the sale and distribution of petroleum products.

“If gas can also be distributed through outlets operated by security agencies, it would make supply management much easier,” he said.

Tamang said the government is considering establishing at least one or two LPG outlets at security-agency fuel stations that already sell petrol and other petroleum products.

He said the move is part of preparations to ensure uninterrupted LPG supplies in the event of an emergency.

The ministry is also making necessary arrangements to address the possibility of LPG shortages and strengthen the country’s preparedness for potential disruptions in supply.
